Dancing Shoes

I was blessed to grow up way back in the 70's. My teen and early adult years had me spending many weekends in Downtown Montreal cruising through the Discotheque's on Rue. Crescent and beyond.

I love to dance.

We would start on Thursday nights. I would get dressed for work (see pic below) and walk a few blocks to the bus stop, get on the Metro (subway) and then walk to my office. Work all day. Then get back on the Metro and go to night school. After school I would meet my friends downtown to dance until the wee hours of the morning.

I would do all of this again Friday and Saturday. Although the thought of that exhausts me now...the real mind blower is I did it in stiletto heels.

(Circa 1978)

Over the years I have wizened and slowly lowered the heels on my shoes and saved them for "special" occasions where I would actually wear a dress. Last summer I purchased some very pretty heels for our sons wedding. Not a wise move.

I felt crippled for weeks afterwards in any shoes I wore. Finally got to the Dr. and was told I had "trauma induced arthritis"! Me? Arthritis? Noooooooo! Since then the challenge has been on to replace my heels with "sensible" versions.

We are going to an annual event in a couple of weeks where I want to wear my dress from the wedding. Not the shoes, no way.  Yesterday I found the perfect pair of "sensible" heels and am tickled about it. However, I did have to go to one of those stores that sell to "older folks" to get them.

I can't believe I am excited about these!

Two more notches on my lipstick case for "things that make me feel old": arthritis and sensible shoes.

Oh well, at least I will be able to let my inner disco-queen out for a night!

I love the photos and the sensible shoes are quite stylish. Kick up your heels... :-)
I envy your love of dance... I always felt more awkward than anything.

Thank goodness we have "sensible,
Zumba" wear now!
Saves us from all those athletic accidents! You REALLY rock those heels!

I think the doctor made that up. "Trauma induced arthritis?" I don't believe it!!!! But now, I do have a friend, nearly 50 who fell off her heels and broke her ankle. Now that I can believe.

Great news is, you'll dance circles around those perched on their heels and look fabulous while you are doing it. PS - I need the name of the shoe store!!!!!
